Beverly Cleary was one of my all time favorite authors while I was growing up. In fact, WAY back when I was in elementary school, we had an assignment to write to an author. I wrote to Beverly Cleary. I remember my excitement when I received a reply letter back!! I sure wish I still had that letter!
This was a refreshing step back in time, a time when life and weddings in particular were simpler. Barbara is the sister of the bride, a 16 year old girl, on the cusp of adulthood, watching the changes her older sister the bride, is experiencing. She yearns to grow up just a bit faster to catch up to her sister. By the end of the book, she has accepted the fact that she still has a lot of fun and experiences waiting for her as she finishes high school.
