Another 2009 Challenge

I didn't think I had read any Pulitzer Prize winning books, but surprisingly I have! This year I am going to join in the Pulitzer challenge hosted by Heather at What Was I Reading?, to encourage myself to read a few more.

The challenge appears to run from now until October 31st, 2009.
Here are the details:

1. Review the previous winners on the Pulitzer Prize website, and select five titles that have won the award during your lifetime.
2. Post an entry on your blog about which five titles you've selected, then post a comment here linking directly to that post.
3. Complete your reading of all the novels before October 31, 2009.
4. Post an entry on your blog when you're done reading all the books and write a brief summary/review/your thoughts (or compile a list of where you previously posted throughout the year), then post another comment here linking directly to that post.

On November 1, 2009, one lucky contestant who completed the contest will be selected as the winner (at random). Winners will get to select another five titles of award-winning books (Caldecott Medal, Newberry Medal, Printz Award, Pulitzer Prize, Man Booker Prize, Noble Prize in Literature, etc.) and they will be shipped to them.

So, I have perused the list and these are the book I have chosen:

1. Breathing Lessons by Ann Tyler (1989)
2. A Good Scent From a Strange Mountain: stories by: Robert Olen Butler (1993)-Finished
3. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
4. Empire Falls by Richard Russo (2002)
5.The Road by Cormac McCarthy (2007)-Finished

alternates:
The Good Earth--Finished
Foreign Affairs by: Alison Lurie--Finished
Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout-Finished

I'm so stoked that you're doing this challenge.

By the way, what PP winners had you previously read (and did you enjoy them)?
