Fall Reading Challenge 2008--Finished

Edited 12/21: Here are my wrap up thoughts:
  • Did you finish reading all the books on your fall reading list? If not, why not?
I finished 11 of the 16 that I wanted/needed to finish by the end of the year. Even though I didn't finish them all by this deadline, I will finish the 3 I have left which need to be finished by December 31.
  • Did you stick to your original goals or did you change your list as you went along?
I took one book off the list because I realized I didn't really need it finished by the end of the year and I didn't feel like reading it. The title: And Then She Found Me by Eleanor Lipman.
  • What was your favorite book that you read this fall? Least favorite? Why?
Most favorite was The Kabul Beauty School--it was a story that grabbed me from page one.
Least favorite was Any Place I Hang My Hat--didn't like the main character or the author's writing style.

  • Did you learn something new because of the Fall Into Reading challenge — something about reading, or yourself, or a topic you read about?
I learned that I definitely should never leave a 600 page book to be read in the month of December!! It has taken me all month to read The Dollmaker. Worth it though!
I also read two books set in the middle east--an area that I normally don't really care to read about--but found both books to be quite insightful.

  • What was your favorite thing about the Fall Into Reading challenge?
Having a list to read from--a list which made me organize my end of the year reading goals. (and the beautiful button to put on my sidebar! :) )
  • Would you like to participate in another challenge here this spring?
Yes!!! Thank you for hosting this, Katrina!!

Edited 12/20: I will be back later today to write my wrap up thoughts on this challenge! For now I am off to do some shopping and laundry before our next big storm arrives!

Well, it is Autumn and time for Fall Into Reading 2008, hosted by Katrina of Callapidder Days!

I have spent quite a bit of time over the weekend, compiling lists of challenges and the corresponding books which have completion dates between now and December. I them compiled a master list of all the books I would need to read in the next 3 months to finish each challenge and the number is 16! That would mean 6 books a month which is going to be a real stretch for me--what with working full time and being a mom and wife!

But I will give it the old college try, learn from my joining up mistakes of 2008 after joining every great looking challenge that came along, and work at being more choosy in 2009! Or, at least get better at combining/crossing over more books between challenges. ;)
The List:

**The Good Earth
**Summer
**The Dollmaker- finished
**Where the Lilies Bloom-finished
**The Used World-finished
**Any Place I Hang My Hat-finished
**Seeing the Crab - finished
**In My Hands - finished
**A Wrinkle in Time - finished
**Kabul Beauty School - finished
**In the Country of Men- finished
**Memory Keeper's Daughter- finished
**Under Sea, Over Stone
**(Shulyer's Monster-maybe won't need this one)
**The Perilous Gard--finished
**Dreaming of Water
