First Sentence: " We came on the wind of the carnival."

Chocolat has been on my shelves for quite a long time and I am very glad I made a point to read it. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

From amazon:
Vianne Rocher and her 6-year-old daughter, Anouk, arrive in the small village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes--"a blip on the fast road between Toulouse and Bourdeaux"--in February, during the carnival. Three days later, Vianne opens a luxuriant chocolate shop crammed with the most tempting of confections and offering a mouth-watering variety of hot chocolate drinks. It's Lent, the shop is opposite the church and open on Sundays, and Francis Reynaud, the austere parish priest, is livid
.

Not only did I love Vianne, but Harris draws us a whole host of supporting characters equally as important to the story as Vianne, her daughter and the priest.

Promptly after finishing this satisfying little novel, I went out to rent the movie which I had never seen and I loved it too, for what it is....a movie. The changes they made I could see why and thought that the ending was very fitting for a movie, just as the ending in the book was fitting for a book! The movie was a little more whimisical and light hearted, but the book has many more layers to it.

  1. This is one of my all time favorite movies, but I've never read the book. I really ought to, shouldn't I!
