down in dixie (edited to add)

This was one of my favorite challenges last year and I am so glad Maggie is hosting it again.

The Rules? Simple:
You may choose to read any style of Southern book such as Appalachian tales, Civil War sagas, Gothic myths, Grit lit, and heart-wrenching biographies. Click here for ideas. Just as long as you read three (fiction or nonfiction) between May 15th and August 15th.

I know for sure I will be reading Mudbound (like at least 1/2 of the other participants so far!) and for the other 2, I am not sure yet--I am going to peruse my shelves!

EDITED: books to select from so far are as follows:

Mudbound: Hillary Jordan--finished
Full of Grace: Dorothea Benton
Dixieland Sushi: Cara Lockwood
A Place to Call Home: Deborah Smith
The Cotton Queen : Pamela Morsi

Other options:
The Well and the Mine--Finished
Fair and Tender Ladies-- (West Virginia)Lee Smith-- Finished
Family Linen--Lee Smith (Virginia, Appalachia region)

I almost bought Mudbound at B&N last week - it sounds so good. The button for this challenge is gorgeous! Good luck!

I need to read Mudbound. It was a big hit last year in the SRC... I'll be interested in reading your reviews. As a Southerner living in exile, the challenge reminds me of how.

One other recommendation: Rick Bragg! I have reviewed his family trilogy over the past couple of months--great writing by an Alabaman.
