Ok, I know that Spring isn't over yet, but as is typical in Seattle we are having VERY summery- like weather here in May. It usually turns ugly off and on throughout June and gets nice again after the 4th of July. That said, I am in a summer mood--it also helps that I finished the Spring Reading Thing already.
So---who is hosting a large scale Summer Reading Challenge?
Come on now.
I even have my list all ready to go!
Here it is:
Mudbound-finished
Keeper and Kid
The Elegance of the Hedgehog
Empire Falls
The Well and the Mine
Fair and Tender Ladies-finished
The Graveyard Book-finished
Mr. Pip
Shanghai Girls
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet-finished
Jane Emily
The Chili Queen
The Year of Fog
Love Walked In
The Governess
Emma
If You Lived Here
Now I am not saying that I will get to read all of these, as I think it would be rather ambitious of me. Nor am I saying that these are the only books I will read this summer. This is only a list of options, and more options can be added at any time! :)
So how about you all. Are you in summer mode yet? (as an aside, my boys don't even get out of school until June 23rd! Can you believe that???) I can't wait until they get out of school to get my summer reading going--in my mind, 1/2 of summer is gone by then!
And who is going to host that summer reading challenge anyway?
June 23rd is way too long to be in school!! We get out the 12th and I can hardly wait. Summer is when I really get a lot of reading done. Your list looks pretty good!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear your thoughts on Mister Pip. My book club described it as both horrific and charming. How's that for a description? I really liked the writing.
ReplyDeleteSorry your kids have to go until June 23. My son is done June 4. I read Mudbound yesterday and really liked it. I am hoping to read The Graveyard Book this summer too.
ReplyDeleteMudbound and Empire Falls are both on my Want To Read list, though I don't have copies. I also want to read Emma this summer. I've never read a Jane Austen book, and Emma has been on my shelf for too long!
ReplyDeleteA lot of the books I plan to bring on our summer vacation are kids/teens books - the last 3 Pendragon books, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (my husband and son both said it's one of the best books they've ever read!)...
Just thinking about all those good books is exciting! My older son finishes final exams this week, and my younger son is done next week. But I grew up in the north (western NY), so it was normal to me to get out in the 3rd week of June.
Happy reading!
Sue
So summer reading list for me, I'm afraid. I'm too busy pulling out my winter woolies :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun though!
I just finished Love Walked In last week. It was an enjoyable read, perfect for the summertime. My review should be up by Friday, so stop by and check it out.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! Where's the Summer Reading Challenge???
ReplyDeleteNice list. I keep seeing Mudbound on people's lists. I'm going to have to check it out. I love Jane Austen and Emma is my 2nd favorite book of hers, I hope you enjoy it!
