Favorite Book by Favorite Author

My Favorite Reads
is hosted by Alyce from At Home With Books every Thursday. I am using this space each Thursday to highlight outstanding books I read before I blogged about books.

Reading 'Saving CeeCee Honeycutt' this week got me to thinking about my favorite authors, who they are and why they are my favorites. They all have something in common with Beth Hoffman, author of CeeCee.
Strong characters and character driven plots. That is what I like to read. I like slow meandering storylines--not the kind that have my heart pounding the whole time I am reading.

So, I thought. And thought. And reached way back into my memory banks to try to remember the first author I became a loyal fan of as an adult. Back before Fannie Flagg, Sandra Dallas, Lorna Landvick, Marcia Willett, Cecelia Ahern, and even before Maeve Binchy, there was this one.

Her name is Rosamunde Pilcher.
Once I read that first book by her, I was mesmerized and had to find and read everything I could find by her. She has long since retired--a fact that found me oh-so-very sad--but I managed to get copies both in hardback and softback of just about every book she wrote.

What was the very first book of hers I found and read?

The Shell Seekers.

I loved it--for all the strong characters.
And meandering plot line.
And the gentleness of the writing.
It was cozy.
It was the perfect book to curl up with and get lost in.
Just like all her other books.

  1. I finally got around to reading The Shell Seekers last year. It's the only RP book I've read but I really liked it. I passed it on to my oldest daughter and she liked it too.

  6. Oh wow, me too! I love all of her books, especially Shell Seekers and September. I was reading her and Maeve Binchy way back when, but haven't read any of hers in years. I wonder if she's still alive, I think even then she was older. I just love her books :)
