Thrown Over

It has happened again.
I am abandoning a current, albeit slow read, in order to read something I am feeling pressured into reading by my family.
Remember how a couple of years ago I was the last person on earth to read the Harry Potter series? How my whole family (5 of them plus a son-in-law) had all read the series at least 2 times--and when I realized how big of deal that last movie was going to be, I read the series straight through?
You know? So I could go to the movie with them all and have a clue what was going on?

This time it is for a book series that I actually purposefully bought for them to read based on so many rave reviews from all the book bloggers I read. But I never felt compelled to read it.

But, a movie is being released in March.
It is a big deal.
My whole family is pumped to the max for its release
So, once again, Mama is coming late to the party.
But arrive I will, because last night I threw down Fancy Strut by Lee Smith, and picked up a new one....

I think I am going to like it!

  1. I've just checked this out on Amazon and it gets some great reviews. I must admit I've not read this series or even seen it but it looks really interesting. Thanks for the tip I think I'll try it. :)

  2. I probably won't read the series because it just doesn't appeal to me. BUT my 31 year old daughter called me on Saturday that she read the first book (first time) the day before and couldn't wait to read the next! I hope you love it as much as your family!!

  3. I enjoyed the first book. Got a kick out of the second and thought the third was a sell-out but it's a fun series and I will be seeing the movie with some book club peeps, which will be a blast.

  5. I was really lucky with the Hunger Game series, because I knew about the first book before it came out. It was long before I was a book blogger, but I did visit Stephenie Meyer's website and she posted a blurb about this great book she read that would be coming out soon. The plot sounded great, so I snapped it up the minute it was released. And I have made a lot of people read it since. :)

  6. I heard a number of middle school book reports on HG and thought, "What a terrible book for young people to be reading! All about teens killing each other!" Rachel said it was really a pretty good book, so I read it (and the rest of the trilogy), and could hardly put them down. HG is the best; but the others complete it. What I couldn't believe was that none of the book reporters said anything like, "This sounds terrible, but there are also themes of sacrifice, and courage, and good vs. evil." ENJOY! (Can Keith borrow it when you're done? Library copies have thousands of holds.)
