Year of Projects year 2, week 1

 Oh the joy.
Oh the giddy feeling of starting something new.
Writing this post rivals that rush of adrenaline I have when just getting ready to cast on a new project!

The time has come to share my knitting goals for the coming year, as year 2 starts today.

My "list" is a combination of specific patterns, general categories and some specific skills which I would like to learn.

So here it is:

1.Projects I want to do that I already have the yarn and pattern for are as follows:

This lovely Shepherds Wool is destined to become my Ashby Shawl.  Last year saw me knitting my first ever little shawlettes, but I have decided they are just not that practical-they are just too small. I am really looking forward to making myself a proper shawl.

This lovely Madeline Tosh yarn will soon be a pair of fingerless mitts featuring a cable owl pattern close to the cuffs:  Edited, This will be moved to next years list, as I knit 3 pairs of mitts for Christmas gifts and I am mitt knitting out!

This gorgeous Koigu Fingering is slated to become a pair of Turkish Bed Socks.  I am pretty sure I will be taking a class to accomplish this project as my local yarn store has come up with a way to knit these such that you can eliminate all the seaming which is part of the original pattern.  This will be an ambitious project for me as I have not yet knit a pair of socks: Edited...Not going to happen before I knit a pair of socks, so highly not likely this year for this project

These two different colors of gorgeous blue dk merino are going to become sweet little sweaters for my 2 sweet lovely Grandys, Adelaide and Amelia. I plan to use the Jane pattern. EDITED: only one sweater was made from this yarn using the darker blue. It ended up being an Annie by Tikki for Amelia.

An Esprit Tunic for baby sister, Amelia with the left over yarn from big sissy's:

2. General Categories that I have yet to pick patterns for
  •  Three pairs of fingerless mitts for specific family members for Christmas gifts: Finished 1 pair for my mom, 1 pair for my sister, and 1 pair for my son's girlfiriend.
  • New  pairs of mitt for the Grandys
  • Baby hat I was asked to knit for Sam's private music teacher's new grandson-due November: Finished
  • Three beanies for my 3 three sons for Christmas: Only did 2; 1 son recieved a purchased one fron sister
  • One cowl for one son's girlfriend for Christmas
  • At least one cowl for me, using the gorgeous yarn I received from Kepani last year--a Madeline Tosh Vintage:  Finished
  • Possible Batkus....for myself. I have a skein of Malabrigo perfect for it: Substitute, A Noble Cowl from KAL instead (try Batkus next year)
  • Dress for Amelia
  • Sweater for me, a first!  Leaning towards The February Lady Sweater
  • Rebecca Danger Stuffie toys--possibly  the Cat, or the Penelope
  • Baby dress for new Grandy, due in May. {Found out baby was a girl, on December 18th!}

3. Specific Patterns:
  •  Gordon Jamie and Hugh Chickens.....
  • Rubble Sweater....for Lyddie
  • Finish little bag I started 3 years ago
  • Finish Owlie Sleep Sack for baby gift: Finished
  • Finish 5  dishcloth's for swap: Finished
  • Finish dishcloths for year long challenge

4. Skills to learn:
  • Chart Reading....should be accomplished with the above mentioned Ashbe Shawl
  • Two at a Time socks--first socks for me. Either from a book or a class at lys
  • Striping,....maybe learn with a beanie for the boys or baby hat
  • Keep on working with magic loop cast on: Getting very comfortable with it, and Judy's Magic Cast on too (note added 12/30/12
  • Toy knitting --see above, Rebecca Danger creations--maybe bunnies for girls for Easter?

There you have it!  Oh, and in case you think I am delusional, I should reassure you that I know I am highly not likely to accomplish this whole list, but the possibilities are exciting and you can't blame a girl for dreaming even if her eyes/ expectations are a bit more ambitious than her ability to speed knit!

Until next time--
*hugs and smiles*

  1. What an awesome list. Some specifics but also general so you can choose what to do. I love your list of new skills you want to learn. Will have to add that to mine, as I always have one of those in my knitting book.

  6. First, let me say that your yarn selection is FABULOUS! I think it is great to start with a list of everything you'd like to do. It can always be trimmed later if necessary, and if not, think of all the cool stuff you will have made!

Your list looks great, I do like those Turkish socks, I want to make some things like that as pressies, maybe for Christmas, maybe I'll check out that pattern.

  18. Best to aim high. So many cute pattern - love Jane! For the fingerless mitts you may want to have look at Treads; I've seen them on a few blogs and they're really fab. I've also had great success with Susie Rodger's Reading mitts, and they're really easy too!

Good luck and we'll see what you've done next week!

  19. Awesome list and yarn to boot...you're really on top of it. Impressive. Chart reading...hum...thinking that's a skill I'm still lacking and didn't think about when making my list. Best of luck as we all together embark on this mission.

  20. I love your list! Good luck with your first sweater. I'm almost done with mine and I'm really pleased with how it's come out so far. Shawls are definitely the way to go (I may be biased)! I love crescent ones best as I find I can get more use out of them - as a scarf and a big wrap. I'm looking forward to seeing what your favourite style will be! :)
