fiber stuff~~~

I missed my Sunday yarn update yesterday, but my life motto seems to be, better late than never! ;)

I have had a great week knitting-- and even managed to get my Ravelry project pages updated to reflect my new projects.  For my non-ravelling friends, I have my settings set to public so hopefully most of the links I provide will take you to an actual site. (well my project pages that is)   I was tickled pink when Ravelry added that feature.

I started my Arwen Cowl on New's Year Day, and due to operator error, we got off to a rough start, but I am happy to say that all is straightened out and we are getting along swimmingly.

Oh this yarn!  I love this Madeline Tosh yarn, and once again, " thanks Kepani!"  I am looking forward to wearing this lovely color with a brown top I own to work-- and am confident it will go far in keeping me warm while sitting at my desk.

The other project I started is called Barndance--and it is just the loveliest scarf! Sadly though, with 200 stitches cast on and 120 added on over 40 rows, each row is taking me longer and longer. I am by no means a quick knitter. I was given this pattern by the store owner of my favorite yarn shop, Yellow House Yarns, as a test knit back in October.

I failed to get it done sooner due to the massive amounts of Christmas knitting I did during the Fall.  But I am up for the task now and can' t wait to wear this to work too.  Can you tell that I meant it when I said, after finishing all the gift knitting, I could hardly wait to knit for myself?

I do have a little gift to get started on though, and one I am thrilled to make. It is for my third grandchild. I announced several months ago that Grandy #3 was set to arrive--hopefully by  the due date of  May 7th.
My sweet daughter called me at work on my birthday in December and told me to check my email.  In that email she announced to me the gender of the baby--a total surprise to me as I thought her ultrasound wasn't set until January!
Anyway....we are all excited to welcome our  3rd little GIRL!!!   Mama was a bit sad at first as she was kind of hoping for a little boy--but I know she will come around and it has become my mission to make #3 exciting!  So.....I have picked out a little dress to make for her--it had to be loose and lacey as the climate where they live is pretty warm in the spring and downright hot in the summer.  No newborn hat and sweaters for this bebe.  I really wanted something teensey tiny that she can wear right away, so I chose Fiona's Top--against my better judgment based on the pattern's comment page--but my wonderful yarn shop ladies will bail me out if necessary.

I chose this beautiful Cascade sock yarn~~~
Imagine my surprise when after having it wound I discovered the name of this colorway is Wild Roses.  You see, they have chosen Rosemary (to be called Rosie) as little girl's name!!!

Well my lovelies---that is all the fiber news from me. I leave you with a photo I snapped the other day, looking up at the winter sky, through our front yard tree at dusk.

Winter for sure!

  5. Congrats on another female in the blood line! It's a fun coincidence about "Rosemary".. on another note..yes, I noticed those pesky seahawks are still playing..they kicked my hometown (and hubbies) favorite team, the Pats to the curb earlier this year...so we have a bee in our bonnet about them!

  7. Your picture is so book cover worthy of a juicy, mystery novel or a paranormal one! And congratulations to you and the family on another granddaughter-to-be! Just like my ohana! I keep forgetting you're using the Madelinetosh! It looks so much more dynamic in your picture at the beg. I like the look and dimensions of that barndance scarf. I can't wait to see more of yours emerge. And that fun yarn? Perfect for that pattern.

  8. The Arwen cowl looks so pretty so far (Arwen sounds like a welsh name to me) the colour of the yarn suits the detail so well.

How exciting to be knitting for a very-littley and Rosie is a beautiful name....we found out the gender on our third, as hubby was very keen to have a girl (having two boys then) when we heard it was a boy it took about five minutes to 'get over' the girl idea and we both agreed it was just right for us...

  9. So fun to see you knitting this!. Tabitha (the designer) is actually a Rav-friend who moderated the Learn to Knit socks group where I started out. And for this particular pattern I did some technical editing and the graphic design. It's a small world!
