Work in Progress & Yarn Along

I have always enjoyed participating in Ginny's Yarn Along each week, and hope to get my act together more often this year.  I think I will need to take my picture during my lunch break so I can take advantage of daylight --I don't get home from work until 6:30 most days and during the winter months, daylight is long gone by then.

My new project is the Arwen Cowl--especially  appropriate as we just had a Lord of the Rings marathon here at our house  on New Years Day!  I won this yarn, Madeline Tosh Vintage from Kepani  last year and I am so excited to have found the perfect pattern for it. Many hours have been spent searching Ravlery's database for this pattern.  I can't wait to finish it and wear it to work-we are starting to freeze each day, as the weather is cold and the front door is constantly being opened in front of us!  I am hoping I might have enough for a pair of fingerless mitts to match.

My books are:
1. Saplings by Noel Steatfeild ~~a rather uncheery look at the disintegration of a safe and secure middle class family during WWII, beginning with the phenomenon of separating children from their parents by evacuating the city children to the country where they would be safer.
2. The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice~~~another story set in London, but after the war during the 1950's.  It revolves around a mother and her children trying to save their vast and crumbling ancestral home--all the while England is dealing with post war issues and careening towards a new decade.

Ta Ta for now--feel free to let me know what you are starting the new year out with--both with books or projects!

  1. My, that's a cheery set of reading to welcome in the new year! I completely get you about the lack of daylight, I hate going to bed at night having not seen the sun all day.

That cowl is going to be beautiful, fingers crossed for enough for mitts too! It's so nice when you get the perfect yarn/pattern match :)

  2. The cowl pattern looks great and will surely keep you warm and stylish at work. I like your choices in book's this week, they would not be maybe my first pick for a read but thats good as I like to see what others are reading, I've seen you take part in this weekly page after page and might give it a go this year, I just need to get my act together also.

  3. Looks like a pretty cowl - have to check it out.
Oh, we really need to have a LOTR marathon here too! It's been years since I saw the movies. And I am so looking forward to watch the Hobbit :)

  5. I have the same exact problem with photos! Although, on the days I am not at work it is always cloudy! I think you take good photos regardless though, don't worry! I love the cowl pattern, it is definitely named well.
